This A-2 deck jacket was adopted as the successor to the N-1 jacket, which was used for deck work in the U.S. Navy. Compared to the previous N-1 model, there are changes in its color and materials used. The outer fabric has been changed from cotton grosgrain to back satin, and the lining has been changed from alpaca wool to nylon boa, reflecting a review of productivity and cost. In terms of specifications, the basic details of the N-1 are inherited, such as the front fly closure with buttons and zipper, and the ribbed cuffs built into the sleeves. However, the collar has been changed, and a chest pocket and bottom adjuster have been added.
